The setting of Aqua is without a doubt the highlight of this contemporary venue. Ultra stylish red ambient decor with floor-to-ceiling windows allows for a spectacular view of the harbor and skyline.
With a menu as adventurous as the décor, Aqua is a must for any visitor to Hong Kong. Offering both Italian and Japanese cuisine split into two contrasting sections on the menu, you are truly spoilt for choice. The delicate flavors of the warm mushroom and lobster salad with arugula and lemon dressing are a delight to start. Follow this with the more unusual but superb Neapolitan squid ink spaghetti with ‘crazy water,’ sea urchin and cherry tomato. The perfectly cooked Victorian lamb is dusted with cumin and fennel seeds and accompanied by smokey eggplant and tomato. Portions are generous and beautifully executed and if you are not tempted by the Italian menu, the Japanese section has a mouth-watering array of sushi and sashimi. Specialties include Taraba crab tempura with crab roe miso and smoked eggplant wrapped in tender paper-thin grilled beef fillet. Finish with the Aqua signature tiramisu with espresso and Kahlua liqueur.
An unusually large selection of wines by the glass. Bottles range from roughly $400–$2,500. An exciting cocktail menu and extensive range of Saki and Grappa is also available.
Staff are fast and efficient, but don’t expect any smiles and the service is certainly second place to the view.
Our three-course meal for two was $1,350, without wine. If you order sensibly, you could dine here for around $700 per head.
