Secret Eats

Dear Editor,

Private kitchens have taken the city by storm. I have heard that they offer unique experiences which I would like to try. Please share your exciting discoveries on where these hard-to-reach places are found. Thank you!

Dear Tammy,

Definitely worth exploring is Yellow Door Kitchen which claims to be one of the first few private kitchens in Hong Kong. Started in the late 1990's as a small dining room, where friends gathered for excellent Sichuan and Beijing cuisine before moving to a more stylish space on the sixth floor of a commercial building on Cochrane Street.

Feeling adventurous, yet? Be sure to also try Le Mieux Bistro, if you don't mind trekking out to Chai Wan, an industrial district situated on the Island's outskirts for some French fare.

Even further afield is Anthony Kitchen, tucked in an obscure building in the New Territories' fishing port of Sai Kung run by Anthony Fong, former chef at the Ritz Carlton (currently closed). Call and book in advance to taste for yourself and you'll see why it pays to go private.

With so many to choose from and more opening each year, private kitchens may not be Hong Kong's big secret anymore.
