As far as al fresco dining goes in Hong Kong, The Peak Lookout has it all. As the name would suggest, it is on the Peak and has one of Hong Kong’s best views. Fairy lights twinkle in trees and on a clear night the moon sparkles on the South China Sea.
In this restaurant you are paying for the location, which is fine as it is so great, but price does not reflect the quality of the menu. The menu is eclectic with Asian, Indian, Italian and grill selections available. Starters range from the trusty nachos, which would benefit from more cheese and guacamole but are nonetheless delicious, while the scallops in bacon are succulent, creamy and fragrant. Mains cover everything from teriyaki to tandoori, a special of the restaurant, and all dishes reflect the simple and wholesome approach to cooking. The burgers are a real treat, huge and well-seasoned patties of beef are smothered with melting cheese and all the accoutrements you would expect. The barbeque serves up hunks of meat, juicy and tasty, while the pastas taste positively authentic. Having space for pudding is tough here as portions are large, but the famous bread and butter pudding is gooey and creamy.
The wine list is vast, although again it’s not cheap. However you can get a reasonable bottle for a reasonable price.
The staff are a bit thin on the ground, but they make up for it in knowledge and willingness. It’s not unusual to wait for service.
Dinner for two comes in at around $1,000, without wine.
