Viceroy is a chance to bypass the familiar tourists clichés of snake charmers, camel caravans and lots more for those of you who enjoy the typical rambunctious Indian scenes and cuisine.

Here there are showpieces from a time when antiques were the only avidly-collected items as well as outstanding monuments such as the "Taj Mahal" - one of the seven wonders of the world which re-creates passion and love making it an ideal setting for Indian weddings, mehndis, sangeets to even product launches and staff parties.

Another star attraction, however, is the "Moghul Garden" outdoor terrace, which is an ideal spot to catch the evening breeze while enjoying a panoramic view of the city or if you are lucky, witness the Symphony of Lights which goes on every night.

Similar to India's headlong rush to modernize, same goes for the food served here at Viceroy. A great effort is made to combine traditional and modern Indian dishes with strong emphasis on lighter and healthier stir-fried dishes by Chef Bhandari, who hails from North India with over 20 years of experience.

Indeed, the dishes all trace their roots to the Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, whether it is the mezze platters or the aromatic Indian briyanis! Each has evolved to suit local tastes such as the "salmon and cheese samosa" and others that may challenge the less adventurous tourist or the skittish visitor with a sensitive palate such as the "chicken tikka peshwari marinated in garam masala and roasted in the tandoor".

Other favourites include "meen vindaloo", a hot fish delicacy cooked to perfection with chilies, freshly ground spices with a dash of vinegar and "murg dhaniyawala", which are boneless pieces of chicken balanced with an infusion of cloves and cardamom and simmered in yoghurt to go along with the fluffy naans.

With such a notable and fantastic multi-sensory wallop, it's easy to see why this place has become a favourite haunt of executive types for its reasonably priced menus and luncheon ladies in search of impeccable service.

Signature dishes:

    • Tandoori Mix Grill
    • Murg Makhani
    • Tarkari Biryani
