Looking out over Wyndham Street, this busy restaurant is adorned with Aboriginal paintings, outback paraphernalia and tribal masks in keeping with the Down Under theme. The bright, open kitchen makes a compelling centerpiece and adds a touch of drama to your dinner.
Woomooloomoo is a carnivore’s paradise with all the usual suspects from an Aussie feast. No messing, man-sized steak tops the menu with Australian beef grain-fed and aged for two weeks for extra flavour. The 10-ounce tenderloin filet mignon is seared to perfection but if you want it anything other than rare, be specific – the default setting is on the blue side. There is a good a selection of seafood and the Tasmanian smoked salmon appetiser or fresh oysters with lemon, tabasco, shallot and red wine vinegar are a must try. Side dishes are large enough for two to share but save room for the Hell’s Gate chocolate cake or lemon and lime pie.
With a decent cellar of Australian and New Zealand wine, you won’t go thirsty and the Sauvignon Blanc is especially good. Wines from Europe and the Americas are also available.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable but somewhat erratic on busy nights.
Dinner for two with starters, main courses, side dishes and deserts comes to approximately $900, without wine.
