Located at recently renovated Tanglin Village at Dempsey Hill, the restaurant’s new locale should attract more affluent patrons, as well as retaining its loyal customers.
This recently shifted hallmark restaurant is credited with creating the famous Black Pepper Crab at its previous venue. The sweetness of the Sri Lankan crab is balanced beautifully with the spicy black pepper, leaving a lingering aftertaste. House specialty prawn is recommended for its succulent flesh, fried to pink perfection. Golden stripe lobster, augmented by crisp dry-fried oats, provides novel contrasting textures. Handmade bean curd with chef’s sauce is uplifted with the fragrance and tanginess of citrus overtones. Fried rice topped with crisp silver fish and crunchy bean sprouts provides a good accompaniment to main dishes. Live fish and crustacean can be chosen from the market area. Try the sweet and smooth black glutinous rice with ice-cream for dessert.
They have a reasonable selection of international wines, plus Chinese rice wine and Japanese sake, though a limited choice by the glass.
From start to finish, staff are unfailingly helpful, courteous and knowledgeable.
Dinner for four persons costs about $140.
