This small, candle-lit restaurant has a private kitchen vibe. Set over two floors there is a small dining area at the front of the restaurant and larger rooms upstairs. The decoration is simple but has personality with Californian art on the walls.
The simple but innovative menu may be fairly small and limited in choice but every dish available is cleverly conceived and spectacularly executed and menus are changed on a fornightly basis. Diners have a choice of three to five courses but given the excellent value for money, it is worth opting for five courses as dishes are small and once you start eating you will definitely want to taste the full range of cuisine on offer. To start, the beef carpaccio is delicately salty and drizzled with truffle oil, while the summer ceviche of squid, prawn and lobster is elegantly flavored with pepper and lemon showcasing the deliciously fresh fish to perfection. The pasta is freshly made with al dente sheets filled with a fragrant ragout, which is followed by a good choice of fish and meat dishes. The buttermilk steamed chicken breast is incredibly succulent and falls apart like butter thanks to an infusion of milky tarragon-flavoured sauce. There is a well-chosen selection of cheese and biscuits available for dessert or choose the fallen chocolate gateaux or light panna cota for a decadent finish.
There is a small but very well chosen selection of New World and Old World varietals. Prices range from $350-$600 for excellent quality wines.
Service is efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Dishes are brought out at perfect timing and staff serve food with elegance.
The fixed price menus range from $368 for three courses to $448 for five courses.
